Strawberries
Today I bought strawberries from the market. Before eating I was thinking about its benefits and uses. So, it makes me study about it. Following are its uses and health benefits which I found:
Strawberries contain a range of nutrients, with vitamin C heading the group. They also contain significant levels of phytonutrients and antioxidants, which fight free radicals. These antioxidant properties are believed to be linked to what makes the strawberry bright red. In addition to vitamin C, strawberries also provide an excellent source of vitamin K and manganese, as well as folic acid, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
In a small study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research, researchers uncovered more intriguing evidence that diet may influence the cancer process, even before it begins. Among three dozen participants at high risk of developing esophageal cancer in China, it turned out that eating strawberries helped prevent early lesions from developing into tumors. Oesophagus has been one of the most common cancers in Britain. More than 8,000 people in Britain develop Oesophagus every year.
Tong Chen, a cancer researcher at Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center, decided to look at strawberries as a cancer-preventer in humans after animal studies showed that the fruit had anti-cancer effects. With plenty of dried fruit supplied by the California Strawberry Commission, which also funded the study, she focused her trial on 36 participants from three provinces in central China that have among the world's highest rates of esophageal cancer. In many cases, esophageal cancer progresses from pre-cancerous growths that are graded as mild, moderate and severe for their likelihood of advancing into malignancy.
New research is being conducted in China after the number of throat –related cancer cases became elevated. Researchers are using strawberries, a common and affordable fruit in the region and recording their findings.
Frozen strawberries, which have a large portion of the water removed, are the most popular choice in this research due to the higher concentration of preventative substances in the berry. Subjects in the study were fed frozen strawberries every day for six months, and recorded their intake. After the study was concluded and the evidence was collected, it was found that strawberries may reduce the number of cancer related cells the bodies produced.
Allergy :
Some people experience an anaphylactoid reaction to the consumption of strawberries. The most common form of this reaction is oral allergy syndrome, but symptoms may also mimic hay fever or include dermatitis or hives, and, in severe cases, may cause breathing problems. Some research suggests that the allergen may be tied to a protein involved in the ripening of fruits.
